Founder & Trustee

Michaela Julian

After a decade in Asia in senior roles, my family and I settled in Franschhoek in 2016, revitalizing The Corner House Guesthouse. With a background in Tourism & Management from Austria and extensive experience across luxury hotels and business services worldwide, I've focused on enhancing our guesthouse. My husband, a creative in photography and videography, and I share a passion for training and development, aiming to uplift our community through education and employment opportunities, fulfilling our dream of making a positive impact.

Brian Moor

I'm actively engaged with "Hope Through Action," where we harness the power of sports to open doors for disadvantaged children, teaching them crucial life skills and involving them in various positive developmental activities. In parallel, my role at the Academy is deeply fulfilling; I dedicate significant effort and share my insights tirelessly. This commitment is not just about contributing; it's about weaving the fabric of success for the project, ensuring every child we reach can dream bigger and stand stronger in facing their futures.

My drive is fueled by a deep-rooted belief in the transformative power of charitable work. I'm committed to closing the educational divide in our industry, enhancing skills, and facilitating employment through partnerships with local businesses. Offering South Africans access to globally recognized education is not just a mission; it's a privilege. The success of this model in Franschhoek could pave the way for its replication across South Africa, broadening horizons and creating opportunities in numerous communities.

I'm deeply connected to Franschhoek, I see the untapped potential here, especially among our youth, and I'm committed to bringing their talents to the forefront in hospitality and tourism. Joining the Academy to manage and train students in 2018 was an opportunity I cherish for the impact it allows me to have. My involvement with the Franschhoek Youth Forum and my past experience in hotel staff training have shaped my vision for the Academy as a beacon of excellence and hope, aiming to produce skilled, respectful, and confident graduates ready to enhance our community and its appeal to visitors and locals alike.

Shaneill Jefthas

I'm Shaneill Jefthas, raised in the beautiful Franschhoek Valley and a proud graduate of Groendal Secondary. After matriculation, my journey took a turn when college didn't pan out, leading me to the local retail scene before diving into the hospitality industry in 2006 at Le Quartier Français. This role was a gateway to expanding my hospitality and tourism knowledge, a path that eventually led me to Protea Hotels by Marriott, where I've been thriving as a Reservations Manager. I'm thrilled to be joining the Franschhoek Hospitality Academy, ready to share my experiences, learn, and contribute to our collective success.

Bringing my international experience and teaching background to the role of Chef Lecturer, I aim to enrich our students' learning journey with a global perspective on culinary arts. This diversity in experience not only broadens their understanding of different cuisines and techniques but also prepares them for a competitive and evolving industry. My goal is to inspire creativity, foster a passion for culinary excellence, and equip our students with the skills and confidence needed to thrive in any culinary environment worldwide.

Wine Lecturer

Shannon Fortuin

My journey into the world of wine began unexpectedly in a library one afternoon, when curiosity led me to pick up an application form marked 'free' and 'study'. Without knowing exactly what it entailed, I applied quickly and, after navigating the enrolment process, embarked on a one-year wine course at the Pinotage Youth Development Academy in 2015. This serendipitous moment marked the start of my deep dive into viticulture and oenology, shaping my path to becoming a Wine Lecturer.
